The Bastion Shiraz is a pure expression of our unique McLaren Vale site – an ethereal wine of both poise and power. After spending nearly two years in French oak barrels it has developed considerable complexity with a tantalising balance of opulent fruit and savoury notes. Heady aromas of dark blackberry and chocolate are underpinned by subtle mocha, violet and earthy characters, along with structured, fine-grained tannins and a good lick of vanilla oak. Enjoy now or, if you can bear to wait, for many years to come.
“An inky deep red with purple hues in the glass, the nose shows the trappings of quality new oak that gives cedar to generous plum and blackberry. The impact of new oak is significant on the palate, and it gives both a sheath of spice, but also savoury oak derived tannins.
