Description
Yalumba The Octavius shiraz. 2018
This wine is a deep bold red purple showing exotic fig and plum sauce, mocha and black liquorice notes. The wine is dense and brooding, showing sweet Shiraz fruit concentration and fine seamless tannins. Long and lush through the finish, it has great integration, style and elegance. The palate’s laid out on long, soft and sweet tannins – really mouth-watering stuff – with flavours of blackberry, plum and mocha holding the finish with impressive power and poise. Unfathomable concentration and a very long life ahead.
Sourced from vineyards with an average vine age of 100 years, more than half of this Shiraz is from Eden Valley and the remainder from the Barossa Valley. Eden Valley Shiraz provides the exotic aromatics and seamless palate structure, whilst Barossa Valley Shiraz provides richness, density and concentration. The Octavius was named after the unique 100-litre ‘octave’ barrels that are handcrafted on site in our Cooperage and made specially for this wine. The term ‘octave’ was coined by our early coopers to describe a barrel an eighth the size of a standard barrel.
